In the fall of 1993, as a relatively new teacher, I started teaching first grade at the U of C of Lab School.   I was amazed by the professionalism, dedication and really good teaching within this environment.   It was a thrill to be a part of it all and still is.  Over the past 15 years I have taught first grade, second grade, a split first-second grade (11 first graders in the same classroom with 11 second graders), and a first-second grade loop.  The loop configuration is my favorite because it gives us (teachers, students, and parents)  two years together to achieve academic goals, to nurture the social emotional life of the child, and to simply get to know and trust each other.  This piece is so essential for the most productive and successful school experience.
Over the course of my career at Lab I have had two children of my own.  The school has been amazing in supporting me at home through time away from teaching to be a mom.  In both cases I have felt ready to be back in the classroom wearing my teacher hat.  Simply, I love to teach.  Of course, part of this dedication is in knowing that my own children have the opportunity to attend Lab School.  After all, I have the inside scoop.  It is a great place to be.
